5 Rules for a happy artist's life

5 Rules for a happy artist's life

1  Fall in love with the process - not the result. Joy comes from doing the work, even when the painting does not turn out as intended.

2  One bad painting does not make you a bad artist. Even the most successful artist has a studio of canvases that have been painted over at some time.

3  Find your own style - do not copy others. The only way to find your own style is to keep experimenting. Look at your work critically - do more of what you like until your style emerges.

4. Your work isn’t for everyone - that is what makes it special. Never worry if your work does not resonate with some. Someone, maybe a lot of people will love what you do and then you have found your collectors.

Invest in your growth. If you were setting up any other business you know you will need to have invest time and money to get started. An art business is not different. Cheap paint and frames are ok for a hobbyist, but not if you want to be taken seriously and sell your work.

It takes time and practice to find your unique style
