Composition In Landscape Painting.
5 decisions to make before putting brush to canvas.
Ask yourself:
1 Where is the horizon line going to be? For most landscapes it will be a 5th to a 3rd of the way down the canvas. Never put if half way down - it will cut the painting in half and rarely looks good.
2 Choose your focal point - this is where there will be the most detail and contrast in hues and tones.
3 Remember atmospheric perspective to give depth ton the painting. Light looks more blue in the distance, more yellow in the foreground.
4 The foreground should be simple to lead the eye into the centre of the painting where the detail should be.
5 Think of leading lines to draw the eye into and around the painting, but never lead the eye out of the painting.
