How Artists Create An Art Collection
A collection must have a theme running through it. This blogs discusses how an artist can add elements that bring cohesion to a series of paintings and the pitfalls to avoid
1 Work on at least ten paintings - just doing two or three is not enough to improve your technique.
2 Analyse each painting as you work - and especially the finished piece - and decide what aspects you really like, then incorporate those aspects into your next painting.
3 Build your collection around what you consider your best work so far. Have it in front of you while you work and be conscious about the elements you like, the colours and tones and the marks you used as well as the composition.
4 Be conscious about using a similar palette on each piece. It is easy to go off on a tangent and start adding extra colours into your artwork, but do this sparingly and intentionally.
5 There must be a theme running through each artwork. This is more than the hues, tones and the composition. It is the atmosphere, the feeling it gives the viewer. Is it a tranquil and serene, or lively and vibrant. Ensure the theme runs throughout the collection while making each painting unique.
